The Maracana is an open-air stadium in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil built in 1948 using reinforced concrete and is one of the most revered football stadiums in the world. In 2010, construction began on the stadium in preparation for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics to meet new regulations. WireCom diamond wire was used to demolition parts of the stadium. Our wire was used in 50-meter lengths using a small 37kW granite quarrying machine. Given an extraordinary test, our wire performed well at a speed of 30mtrs/sec. WireCom engineered the beads to work in semi-dry cutting conditions to generate extreme heat, allowing the wire to cut 9 sqm/hr.
